November is Diabetes Awareness Month, a time to highlight the importance of understanding diabetes and how small lifestyle changes can make a lasting difference. At Horizon, we are passionate about helping people of all ages and abilities take control of their health through movement, confidence, and connection.

For those living with diabetes, or looking to prevent it, regular physical activity plays a huge role in improving wellbeing. That is why our Horizon Wellbeing Hub, based in The Meridian Centre, Havant, offers a calm, welcoming space where anyone can start or restart their fitness journey at a pace that feels right for them.

Why Movement Matters

Exercise is one of the most effective tools for managing and preventing Type 2 diabetes. It helps the body use insulin more efficiently, keeps blood sugar levels stable, and improves heart health, balance, and energy levels. It can also boost mental wellbeing, which is a vital part of maintaining long-term health.

At Horizon, we understand that joining a gym or class for the first time can feel daunting, especially for those managing health conditions or mobility challenges. The Horizon Wellbeing Hub was created to bridge that gap by providing a safe, supportive space where everyone can move, learn, and grow stronger with the right guidance.

The Hub: Your Gateway to Better Health and Diabetes Awareness

The Horizon Wellbeing Hub is the first of its kind in the area and offers an inclusive environment focused on helping people build healthier habits and confidence through low-impact exercise.

Our Health Coaches work closely with each member to understand their goals and create a plan that works for their individual needs. Whether you are managing diabetes, recovering from illness, or simply wanting to improve your fitness safely, The Hub provides everything you need to get started.

Popular classes include:

  • Low Impact Circuits
  • Men’s Circuit Class
  • Ladies Strength Circuits

The Hub also runs the Foundations Programme, a four-week course led by Health Coaches that helps participants build confidence, improve physical fitness, and learn practical ways to lead a healthier lifestyle. This programme is ideal for those who may feel nervous about joining a mainstream gym, offering a smooth and supported path into regular activity.

Understanding Your Health

Knowledge is power, and The Hub helps you take charge of your wellbeing through free and full health checks. These checks measure key indicators such as blood pressure, weight, BMI, oxygen saturation, and blood glucose, giving you a clearer understanding of your health and where to focus your efforts. This all contributes to diabetes awareness.

For just £15, our Full Health Check also includes cholesterol and glucose testing using quick, non-invasive technology, giving you instant results and peace of mind. These checks can be especially valuable for those at risk of or managing diabetes, helping you track progress and make informed lifestyle choices.

Building Healthy Habits for Life

At Horizon, we believe that improving health should never feel intimidating. The Hub provides a friendly, community-focused environment where small steps lead to real progress. Many of our members join after being referred by a healthcare professional or following advice to increase physical activity. What they find is more than just exercise. They find support, routine, and encouragement.

Building confidence and forming consistent habits is key to managing diabetes and improving overall wellbeing. Whether it is attending a weekly class, learning new exercises, or understanding your health better through our checks, The Hub helps you take charge of your future one session at a time.
