Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Every October, communities across the UK unite for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness, encouraging early action, and empowering people to take control of their health. At Horizon, this message is close to our hearts. We want our members, staff, and community to feel supported, informed, and inspired to look after their wellbeing.

Why Horizon Supports Breast Cancer Awareness

We support CoppaFeel!, the UK charity dedicated to encouraging people to check themselves regularly and know their normal. Their mission is simple but powerful: by spotting unusual changes early, you can seek medical advice quickly.

Breast cancer early detection saves lives. The sooner someone acts, the better their chances of successful treatment. That is why spreading awareness is at the core of what we do.

Making Awareness Positive and Approachable

Conversations about breast cancer can sometimes feel overwhelming, but raising awareness does not have to be daunting. At Horizon, we believe in making health messages positive, accessible, and empowering.

Last year, our teams dressed in CoppaFeel! t-shirts, used fun props, and displayed posters across our centres, even in the toilets, so the message reached everyone in a clear yet light-hearted way. By making the conversation open, we help break down barriers and encourage our community to see self-checking as something to celebrate.

It is not just about raising money or wearing pink. It is about making sure that everyone, no matter their age, feels confident enough to talk about their health and take proactive steps in caring for themselves.

A message for All Year Round

While October shines a spotlight on breast cancer awareness, it is important to keep the message alive throughout the year. CoppaFeel! encourages people to check themselves monthly as part of their self-care routine, and we echo this by building awareness into daily life at our centres.

At Horizon, wellbeing means more than fitness. From posters that act as gentle reminders to themed awareness events and supportive staff conversations, we want our community to know that looking after their health is a priority every day. Taking the time to check yourself is quick, simple, and potentially life-saving, which is why we encourage our members to make it part of their routine.

Looking Ahead: Movember and Beyond

Health awareness is not limited to one month. After October comes Movember, the international campaign that raises awareness of men’s health issues including prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health. At Horizon, we are committed to supporting these campaigns because they all share a common goal: encouraging people to take charge of their wellbeing.

Just as with breast cancer awareness, Movember is about breaking down taboos, starting important conversations, and reminding people that early action can save lives.

We Can Make a Difference

Next time you visit our centres, whether for a workout, a swim, or a class, take a moment to think about your health. Share the message, encourage others, and join us in making awareness a true community effort. Let us move together, support each other, and keep these important conversations going, not just in October but all year round.
