The Highlights of Horizon’s National Fitness Day 2025

At Horizon Leisure, we believe fitness is about more than just exercise; it is about community, wellbeing, and enjoying movement together. National Fitness Day provides the perfect opportunity to celebrate all of this, bringing our members, staff, and local communities together to try new activities, stay active, and feel inspired.
Step with the CEO and Classes for All
National Fitness Day kicked off in style with our CEO, Mike Lyons, leading the Step class of the year. Members packed the studio, bringing incredible energy and enthusiasm to every move. The morning Flourish and evening Zumba Step sessions kept participants moving and smiling throughout the day. From body conditioning to dance fitness, there was truly something for everyone to enjoy, no matter their fitness level.

Activities for Children
Our younger members were just as busy celebrating National Fitness Day. The Crèche hosted a full programme of activities, including races, arts and crafts, and soft play sessions. Children also had fun with THRIVE on bouncy castle inflatables, keeping them active and entertained throughout the day. These activities made it clear that fitness and wellbeing at Horizon Leisure are for all ages.
Members also had fun with the smoothie bike in the café, pedalling to blend their own drinks. This interactive activity combined fitness with flavour and kept energy levels high throughout the day, adding a playful and engaging element to the celebrations.

Challenges and Community Engagement
Staff and members took on a variety of gym challenges across all centres, including the popular hang challenge, showcasing determination, teamwork, and friendly competition. The “Powered By” boards were another highlight, capturing the many motivations behind our staff and members’ fitness journeys. From internal drive to love of the game, it was inspiring to see the wide range of reasons that keep our community moving and engaged. This campaign perfectly reflects National Fitness Day’s tagline, demonstrating how everyone, from individuals to communities, can contribute to the message that being active matters.

Health, Wellbeing and Expert Guidance
Our Health and Wellbeing team represented Horizon Leisure at the Live Longer Better event at Staunton Country Park, sharing advice and promoting healthy lifestyles. Members at Waterlooville also had the opportunity to take part in body scans courtesy of Evolt Health and Inspace Fitness, while Guildford welcomed Choozy Health with their first pop-up, showcasing supplements to support an extra wellness boost.

Adding further value, Derek Crawford, Founder and Lead Coach at Headway Training, spent three days working with our teams across all centres. Staff participated in sessions designed to build confidence, strengthen engagement, support goal achievement, and drive member retention. On National Fitness Day, Derek took to the gym floors to demonstrate purposeful engagement, effective communication, and strategies for understanding member goals.
Alongside our Commercial Director, Scott, he spoke with teams about applying the training, positive coaching techniques, and practical advice for PTs on growing their business. These sessions help our teams connect more meaningfully with members and deliver a stronger, more personalised experience across Horizon Leisure.
Celebrating Growth and Community Impact
National Fitness Day 2025 reached over 21,800 total views, 18,400 story views, and 180 profile visits. On the day itself, 3,108 members visited our centres, with 955 joining classes and sessions. The incredible support from our members, staff, and community created an electric atmosphere across all our centres, proving once again that fitness at Horizon Leisure is not just about movement; it is about connection, wellbeing, and community.
From Step with the CEO to challenges, classes, children’s activities, and expert-led sessions, National Fitness Day 2025 was bigger and more vibrant than ever. We look forward to carrying this energy, engagement, and community spirit into future events, continuing to make Horizon Leisure a place where everyone feels inspired, supported, and active.
