Horizon Leisure’s Member of the Year 2024

Horizon Waterlooville is proud to announce its Member of the Year for 2024: Sharon! Selected through nominations from the Horizon Waterlooville team, this award recognises a member who exemplifies dedication through consistent attendance, significant progress in their fitness journey, and a positive impact on the centres community with their attitude and motivation. The team unanimously agreed that Sharon embodies all these qualities and more.

Horizon Waterlooville's member of the year 2024.

Sharon joined Waterlooville Leisure Centre in 2022 wanting to maintain her fitness whilst she was in and out of surgery for a rare type of cancer. She sought the support and guidance from our Health Coach, George, as part of our Health Referral Scheme. Sharon made remarkable progress in her fitness, strength and all around wellbeing until her cancer returned for the 14th time. It was at this point she made the decision that, to remove all traces of the cancer, she would undergo a leg amputation. But, this did not stop her and by January, she was eagerly meeting with George in the gym to talk about what she could do with her new post amputation body.

Since then, there has been no stopping Sharon. She has been a regular user of the centre, visiting the gym, pool, attending classes such as Yoga and Meditation, and you’ll also see her on the badminton courts at Havant!

Hearing the sentiments from the centre team who nominated Sharon, it is clear that her dedication, drive, humour and positivity is an inspiration to us all. Highlighting that, even in the darkest times, she is a light that shines for others, always there to chat or laugh with. Sharon even did some free marketing for us, telling everyone at the prosthetic clinic that they simply HAD to go to Horizon and see George.

Congratulations to Sharon, Horizon Leisure’s 2024 member of the year! A true beacon of our company values.
