Staying Active Throughout Your Life

Exercise is a vital component of a healthy lifestyle for individuals of all ages. Whether you’re a child, a teenager, or an adult, regular physical activity offers numerous benefits that enhance your overall wellbeing. Let’s explore how exercise positively impacts different life stages and why staying active throughout your lifetime is essential.

Never Too Old to Exercise

Gill, a Trustee at Horizon Gyms, highlights that you are never too old to exercise. “It keeps you young at heart, I say! I have always done some form of exercise, and I believe this has stood me in good stead as I am now in my later years.”

“With many more successful treatments for many health ailments, it is even more important that we look after ourselves to give us the chance to recover quicker. However much you do, it helps keep you looking young and contributes to a positive outlook on life. All of this can’t be bad!”

“Being a member of Horizon allows me to do all of these things with like-minded people of all ages, whether it is in the gym, attending classes or even going for a swim. With the added benefits for me of meeting and making new friends, I see outside of the gym environment, it’s good for the mind too on many different levels.”

Opportunities to Stay Active at Horizon Gyms

Our Classes at the Wellbeing Hub: We hold classes at our Wellbeing Hub in the Meridian Centre, aimed at over-50s, such as Ladies’ and men’s Circuits. These focus on strength and balance and are fun and friendly.

Low-Intensity Classes: We offer a low-impact alternative to our circuit classes on the gym floor at all our sites. You’ll feel like you’ve had a great workout without the impact on your joints, and classes can be adapted to suit individual needs and fitness levels.

Swimming: Maximise your fitness by using our pools or attending our water-based classes. These activities provide a full-body workout and boost cardiovascular strength while minimising strain.

Seated Classes: At Guildford, we hold Chair Fusion classes, which is a Yoga and Pilates-inspired class using chairs for those who do not want to do floor-based exercises.
