Exercise Options at Horizon Beyond Your Typical Gym Routine
Participating in exercise beyond the confines of a gym offers a myriad of benefits that can enrich both physical fitness and overall wellbeing. Group fitness classes or sports clubs provide opportunities for social interaction, fostering a sense of community and accountability while making exercise enjoyable and motivating. At Horizon, we offer a range of activities that go beyond the typical gym routine. From Spin Classes, Squash, to our monthly Tea Dance, there is something to fit all exercise preferences.
Cycle Classes
Taking part in a cycle class offers a dynamic and invigorating way of exercising. These high energy sessions, typically set to motivating music and led by experienced instructors, provide a full body workout that targets major muscle groups, including the legs, core, and upper body. The intense cardiovascular exercise of cycling classes not only improves heart health and boosts endurance but also burns a significant number of calories. At Horizon we offer various cycle classes in our Cycle Studio in Havant, such as: Les Mills RPM, The Trip, and Sprint, with some of these being virtual. As of May, we have installed new Spin Bikes to enhance your Cycle Studio experience so why not give one of our cycle classes a go.
Squash
The dynamic nature of squash, with its quick movements and rapid changes in direction, enhances agility, speed, and reflexes, contributing to overall athleticism and coordination. Additionally, the repeated striking of the ball engages muscles throughout the body, including the legs, arms, core, and back, leading to improved strength and muscle tone. Beyond the physical advantages, squash is also a mentally stimulating activity that requires strategic thinking, sharpening cognitive skills and mental acuity. This is why, Squash has been dubbed as one of the healthiest sports. Our Havant Leisure Centre boasts a state-of-the-art Squash Court, accessible to all members as part of their membership benefits and makes a great way to change up your usual gym routine.
Swimming
Swimming offers a multitude of benefits for both physical and mental wellbeing, making it one of the most comprehensive forms of exercise. As a low impact activity, swimming is gentle on the joints, making it suitable for individuals of all ages and fitness levels, including those with arthritis. The resistance provided by water strengthens muscles throughout the body, promoting overall muscle tone, strength, and endurance. Additionally, swimming is an excellent cardiovascular workout. Whether you’re swimming laps, participating in aqua aerobics, or simply enjoying a leisurely swim, incorporating swimming into your fitness routine can lead to improved physical health, mental wellbeing, and overall quality of life.
Dance
One of the key advantages of dance is its ability to provide a full body workout, engaging muscles throughout the body and promoting strength, flexibility, and endurance. Dance is an exciting form of exercise because you can incorporate creativity and self-expression. At Horizon Waterlooville, we hold monthly Dances, where participants can take part in ballroom and sequence dancing, and in between dances enjoy tea and biscuits. Come along and experience the benefits of dancing as an excellent form of exercise that may be more engaging to you than working out at the gym.
Horizon’s mission is to inspire the community to be healthier and happier. Staying active doesn’t just have to mean going to the gym regularly, it can be taking part in classes like our Tea Dance, or going for a Swim. All of these activities require moving your body, and this is significant in not only improving your physical wellbeing, but your mental wellbeing. Make the most of your membership with us, and try something different next time you visit.
