Keep Fit Tips for Students

The challenge of keeping fit while studying

Keeping fit and healthy while embracing student life can be hard! With exams, deadlines and a social life to keep on top of, fitting in a workout can soon find its way to the bottom of the pile.

A recent study showed that an alarming 60% of students were classed as ‘insufficiently physically active’, whilst 47% had unbalanced diets and 30% showed low levels of mental wellbeing.

Now we know not all students are like this but nonetheless these figures are still shocking. With a busy lifestyle and the temptation of fast food and alcohol your health and fitness can soon slip. Don’t panic, it is more than possible to lead an active lifestyle while staying on top of your studies.

Here are our top tips to help you get an A* in fitness…

Have a plan in place

With such a busy lifestyle it is important to plan not only when you’re going to go to the gym but what you’re going to do in the gym. We know that your time is precious so having a set plan will help you use that time in the gym optimally. If you’re not sure where to start and want to make sure you’re getting the most out of your workouts, why not speak to one of our expert gym instructors and get them to put you a gym programme in place – this way you’ll start seeing the results even quicker.

Workout with a friend

As a student we know how important socialising is to you, so why not have the best of both worlds and hang out with your pals while working out. Not only do you get to socialise but it can stop you from falling off the fitness band wagon. If you skip a workout you’re not only letting yourself down but you will be letting your workout buddy down too.

Set a goal

Just as you would set yourself goals for college or university it is important to know what you want to achieve from your fitness. Having something to work towards makes all the effort you put in worth it when you see the results coming in.

Enjoy it

Most importantly, you need to enjoy what you do. If you don’t enjoy going to the gym, what about trying an exercise class or taking a dip in the pool. There are so many ways to get active so take your time to find something you love and it won’t seem like such a chore.

So, if student life is feeling a little overwhelming, why not have some ‘you’ time and focus on your health and fitness. At Horizon we offer student memberships to fit your needs, so not only will you be seeing results with your studies but you’ll be seeing fitness results in no time.
