What cardio is right for you?

HIIT or LISS? Find out which cardio is right for you.

Wouldn’t it be great if you could zap any excess body fat in minutes and for free? Well, the good news is you actually can. That’s right, with carefully curated cardio you can be well on your way to reaching your fitness goals in no time. But, with different cardio options available it can be hard to determine what is best for you and your body…that is why we’re here to help find out which type is right for you.

High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)

So what is HIIT training? As the name suggests, HIITs involves working out in various intervals, at a high intensity, ensuring you get a maximum benefit for your workout. So, why should you take part in a HIIT workout?

Firstly, it boosts your metabolism while burning tons of calories in a short period of time. Sounds great, right? A recent study published by the British Journal of Sports Medicine showed that those using HIIT lost 28.5% more weight than those taking part in less intense forms of exercise.

HIIT will also elevate your heart rate to a level that will encourage significant improvement to your cardiovascular fitness. If you stick at it you will find cardio workouts become easier over time and your fitness will dramatically improve.

If you think HIITs is for you, then check out our exercise class timetable and come get involved in one of our HIIT workouts, led by our expert Gym Instructors.

Low Intensity Steady State (LISS)

LISS training is the complete opposite of HIIT, instead of high intensity sprints, imagine a brisk walk or a gentle bike ride. LISS is great for those who struggle with high impact exercise and can be very effective in improving overall health, reduce blood pressure and help improve your sense of general wellbeing.

With LISS you can essentially perform it every single day if you wish. Whether it is biking, walking or swimming, all are low impact and not hard on the body but still have amazing health and fitness benefits. So if you’re wanting your body to recover for your weight sessions as well as burn additional calories then LISS is perfect for you.

It’s clear to see that there are many benefits of both HIIT and LISS cardio workouts. If you don’t have much time and need to squeeze in an effective workout before work then HIIT is for you, just don’t over-do it. If you are training for a marathon or have plenty of time on your hands then begin with some LISS training and start working towards your goals and improving your health.
