Keeping Kids Active

Health benefits for kids

Did you know, it is just as important for children to keep as active as it is for adults? In fact, some may argue it is even more important as it will set them good habits for later on in life. On top of all the amazing health benefits keeping children active has it also will have some perks for you as parents such as your little ones sleeping better, having stronger bones and can even help improve their concentration when learning.

The NHS recommend that children under 5 should not be inactive for long periods of time except when asleep. Long periods of inactivity include being strapped into a buggy or car seat or watching more than 8 hours of TV a week, there is a lot of research and evidence that inactivity can increase risk of poor health.

So how can Horizon Leisure Centres help to keep your little ones active? Well, the list is almost endless!

Splash pools

Swimming has a whole range of health benefits especially when started young! Including helping to build endurance, muscle strength and cardiovascular fitness, as well as helping to maintain a healthy weight, healthy heart and lungs.

Our 13m splash pools are suitable for any age (as long as babies have had their first set of jabs) and are maintained at a slightly higher temperature than the main pools making them perfect for babies and younger children, come and get those legs kicking and make a splash!

Educational play centres

Not only are our play centres super fun and super-sized… they are educational too!

We have Oceans of Play where children can climb aboard the ship with 4 levels of fun, the top two floors are the ship with the bottom two floors being an underwater theme and that’s just for the older children.

The littler ones have a separate toddler area where they can pretend to go to depths of oceans, play with colourful fish and ride with the soft seals. That’s bound to keep the kids running, crawling and climbing for at least an hour!

Groups

There are many social benefits of attending groups, but the biggest benefit is your little ones being able to run free! Our toddler groups are held in our large sports halls so there’s plenty of space to run, jump and even climb on all the apparatus. Our groups are on for an hour and a half so that’s half the daily recommended amount of time a toddler should be active throughout 24 hours.

Birthday parties

Birthdays are an exciting time for children and Horizon Leisure Centres are here to lend a helping hand with lots of different party options from bounce parties, inflatable swim parties, team games party and lots more! If you’re struggling to peel your children away from their favourite TV show then maybe a birthday party at Horizon will give them a taste for what we have to offer here and get them wanting to run around in our fun facilities more often! Winner!

Teen Gym Sessions

For the older ‘youngens’ we offer teen workout sessions in our gym for 10 – 15 year olds. After the first teen workout session and induction, participants can return to use the fitness machines to burn calories and enjoy exercising in the gym by themselves during the specified teen sessions. All teen sessions are fully supervised by a gym instructor.

So with all that in mind, we hope we can help as much as possible with keeping your little ones active and look forward to seeing you soon!
