May 25th 2021

Flick Drummond MP, visited Waterlooville Leisure Centre on 30th April 2021. She was invited to tour the centre by Peter Lewis, Deputy Chair of Horizon.

Mrs Drummond is the MP for the Meon Valley constituency and the centre with many the Horizon members living in the constituency.

Mrs Drummond is currently working in Parliament to help enable the regeneration of the Waterlooville shopping centre and seized the opportunity to look around the centre to gain a better understanding of the area, its community, and its facilities.

Mrs Drummond was met by Peter and Howard, CEO of Horizon Leisure Centres, who together with Sarah, Centre Manager, took her and her aide on a tour of the facilities.

Along the way Mrs Drummond was introduced to several of the Team whom she stopped to chat with.

Mrs Drummond said “It was great to visit the Waterlooville Leisure Centre, run by local charity Horizon Leisure Centres. I was impressed with the standard of the centre, the equipment provided and the passion and enthusiasm of the staff. Given the global pandemic, there is never a better time for everyone to take care of their physical, mental, and social wellbeing and regular visits to the centre to go to the gym, have a swim or take part in an exercise class must be encouraged. I was particularly impressed with Covid-secure measures taken by Horizon to provide a safe environment for the community and staff to use. I look forward to returning to the centre although this time I will bring my swimming gear with me!”

Howard Broad, CEO of Horizon Leisure Centres said “I was pleased with the visit. It’s not often you get the chance to engage with a local MP and have the opportunity to showcase our lovely centre and explain the excellent charitable work that we provide the local community. Flick seemed to be highly impressed with our operation and it does no harm to have a supporter in the corridors of power in Westminster!”
